Lars Stindl is retiring at the end of the season

Ex-Bundesliga star and former Gladbach captain Lars Stindl has decided to retire at the end of this season.

Sad news for all Karlsruhe, Gladbach and Hannover fans: Lars Stindl is hangig up his boots at the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Stindl left Borussia Mönchengladbach for free in the summer of 2023 to join his youth team Karlsruhe in the 2. Bundesliga. This season he’s played 17 times, scoring four and assisting five goals. Karlsruhe is currently 7th in the league, just six points behind a relegation spot to the Bundesliga – also thanks to Lars Stindl.

The former DFB player (11 games, 4 goals) had his most prominent time at Gladbach, for who he played 271 games. With his 83 goals and 62 assists Stindl helped the “Fohlenelf” reach the Champions League many times, in which he himself featured on 19 occasions (7 goals, 4 assists). At Gladbach he also grew into a leader role, becoming club captain at only his second year at the club.

“It was an incredibly beautiful and intensive time including many highs, but also some very tough moments. It has been a dream for me to come back and score for my youth team. Thank you to everyone, who helped make this possible. For me, this last year has been very special,” says Stindl.
