Bayern Munich could target Ian Maatsen in the summer

As reported by Sky Germany, Bayern Munich have identified Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen as a potential summer signing.

The 22-year-old is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where he has impressed during his brief spell at the club. Maasten has already been able to register a goal and two assists in just twelve appearances for BvB in all competitions, leaving Die Schwarzgelben hoping to make his move permanent.

However, due to the €41 million release clause in Maatsen’s contract at Chelsea that will be active in the summer, there are doubts about whether Dortmund will be in a position to sign the Dutchman. This has, therefore, left the door open for Bayern.

Der Rekordmeister could find themselves busy on the transfer front in the summer, especially in the left-back department. Despite offering Alphonso Davies a new contract, the Canadian has not yet put pen to paper with his current deal at the club, which is set to expire in 2025.

With Real Madrid looking to persuade Davies on a move to Spain, Bayern have informed Davies that if he does not agree upon their existing offer, then he will be sold at the end of the season. However, there are a plethora of left-backs on Bayern’s radar.

AC Milan’s Theo Hernández is still the number one target for the record champions if they are to lose Davies, but Girona’s Miguel Gutiérrez is another alternative if a move for the 26-year-old fails to materialise.

Nevertheless, Maatsen will almost certainly leave Chelsea in the summer, and the Bundesliga appears to be the probable destination for the 22-year-old.
