Leon Goretzka has undergone knee surgery in Austria and seems to be in good spirits. The Bayern star didn’t experience a clear injury in training, but the Bayern medical team noticed ‘an abnormality in his left knee’ upon further investigation. Goretzka is not partaking in the Bavarian club’s US tour and will return to the field in several months.

Goretzka posted an Instagram message thanking supporters as he said, “Yesterday’s surgery in Innsbruck was successful and I’m doing very well after the initial shock…I’ll give everything to be back on the pitch as soon as possible and I’m confident that I won’t miss too much.”

Expect Marcel Sabitzer and newcomer Ryan Gravenberch to see increased playing time during his absence.
