Borussia Dortmund will look to move on five players this summer as the signs point to a much-needed rebuild of the squad, according to Bild.
Not included in the five are Mats Hummels and Marco Reus whose contracts expire in the summer and although both could re-sign, the signs point to a departure for both of them. While the future of Donyell Malen is also up in the air as it is reported previously that he is linked to a move away from the club and could be used as a makeweight in a move for Jadon Sancho.
Youssoufa Moukoko and Sébastien Haller would be allowed to leave the club in the summer if they receive the right offer. Both have struggled for form and game time this season despite strong performances at the latter end of last season. This has mainly been due to Edin Terzic’s preference for Niclas Füllkrug in the striker position.
Ramy Bensebaini is a candidate to leave as in the first six months of his Dortmund career he has failed to show anything close to his form at Borussia Mönchengladbach and has recently been benched by January loanee Ian Maatsen. The same can be said for Salih Özcan who since joining from 1.FC Köln as never asserted himself in midfield. The 26-year-old has attracted interest from Turkey.
Emre Can’s future is dependent on the future of Terzic. It’s known that the Dortmund manager is a fan of the midfielder, lobbying to keep him at the club in the summer instead of signing Edson Álvarez as well as making him club captain. If Terzic does not keep his job beyond the summer, then it is likely that Can will be moved on.
