Villarreal star Raúl Albiol has today provided an insight into his plans for next season.
Stopper Albiol, for his part, remains an absolutely integral figure at the heart of Marcelino’s Villarreal backline.
Despite now being 38 years of age, the former Real Madrid man has showcased little sign of slowing down this season, on his way to starts in 20 of the Yellow Submarine’s 29 La Liga outings.
And yet, come the close of the campaign, Albiol’s terms at the Estadio de la Cerámica, as things stand, will come to an end.
Speaking in a press conference on Wednesday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of his future beyond the summer was put to the veteran defender.
Albiol, however, was keen to keep his cards close to his chest.
After joking that he would play until he was ‘338 years old’ if he could, the Spaniard confirmed that he intends to sit down with boss Marcelino and the club’s board once the season ends, with the aim of coming to a mutual agreement on plans for the 2024/25 campaign.
“I want to see if I’m okay, to feel good again on the field and see how the season ends,” Albiol explained, as per Mundo Deportivo.
