West Ham ‘told to pay’ £30m for star after ‘talks’ at London Stadium

West Ham were told to pay £30m when they enquired about signing Chelsea striker Armando Broja, while other clubs were quoted less, says transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Albanian looks to be closing in on a move to the London Stadium, but Jones has revealed that talks between West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady and Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly were not initially straightforward.

What is the latest news involving Broja?

According to The Guardian, West Ham have submitted a £30m bid with add-ons for Broja.

The above comes after the Hammers made a £25m offer for the Chelsea forward, who reportedly wants a permanent transfer this summer and not another loan move.

Broja, of course, joined Southampton temporarily last year, with the south coast club giving him the platform to perform.

In total, the 20-year-old scored nine goals in 38 appearances, which was clearly enough to catch West Ham’s attention.

What has Jones said about Broja to West Ham?

Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that there has been a lot of confusion surrounding this Broja deal because Chelsea have been quoting different prices for their academy product.

Speaking to GMS, the journalist said: “Karren Brady, I understand, met with Boehly for talks about what it might take and was told £30m. The problem with that is other clubs that had enquired about Broja were told it was less than that.

“It was closer to £20m, and they were talking to other people at the club, so there was a lot of confusion about why they were being given one fee and other people had been told another.”

How pleased would David Moyes be with the acquisition of Broja?

If West Ham can wrap up this deal, which looks more than possible, Moyes will be delighted.

It has been reported that Broja is the Scotsman’s primary forward target, an area of his squad that desperately needs strengthening.

They went into last season with Michail Antonio as their only recognised striker, a decision that arguably cost them as the campaign went on.

While Antonio started proceedings strongly, scoring five goals in his first five league matches, there was eventually a massive drop off.

The Jamaica international went on to register just five more times before the Premier League season concluded. Had he had support, someone to share that goalscoring burden, perhaps the Hammers could have finished higher in the table and gone one step further in the Europa League.
