Despite many rumours in the January transfer window linking Tottenham Hotspur with a move for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, nothing ever materialised.
It seems clear that the Blues are willing to sell one of their best performers in 2023/24 given that his sale would represent pure profit in the books for Financial Fair Play purposes.
Though a future move isn’t necessarily out of the question, it seems that the North Londoners have identified a much more cost effective alternative.
Given his current club’s perilous position, there’s every reason to believe that a move for Everton’s James Garner might be more successful than their Gallagher pursuit.

According to TeamTalk (h/t Fichajes), the player, who cost Everton just £15m from Man United, is likely to be available if the Toffees don’t avoid the drop into the Championship.
Should that precise situation occur, the club won’t be in the healthiest negotiating position, and Tottenham will surely feel that they could bag themselves a bargain if they make good on any initial interest in the player.
From Ange Postecoglou’s point of view, it seems clear that a young and mobile defensive midfielder remains his priority signing.
Spurs have been opened up with ease in some games this season, and by stationing some cover in front of their back four, this should stop happening.
