After winning his first game in charge of Mainz, Bo Henriksen was delighted with what he described as a “fantastic day”.

New Mainz coach Bo Henriksen got exactly the start he wanted in his new job, beating Augsburg 1-0 on his debut.

After the game, the Dane was both satisfied and tired.

“We worked very well and implemented the press very well, even with the strikers up front. We should have finished the first half better. It was a very good game,” Henriksen said in a post-match interview.

“I just want to give the players energy and emotion. That is all. I’m a bit tired now. I’m proud of the players because everyone gave their all for 90 or 100 minutes. It was a fantastic day for us,” he added.

“The fans are fantastic. Everything was ready and we could see that. I’m proud of the men in the dressing room.”

Next up for Henriksen and Mainz is a tough away trip to league leaders Bayer Leverkusen, who are unbeaten this season. But the Dane believes he can change that.

“I always believe I can win,” he said.
