After returning to Schalke following a loan spell in Belgium, 21-year-old Rabbi Matondo is nearing a move to Rangers for a reported €3m, according to Sport1.
The Wales international has no future at Schalke and is entering the final year of his contract. Per the report, talks between Rangers and Matondo are ongoing. This comes after Cercle Brugge decided against activating their €3.5m purchase option on the player – the reason being his transfer fee and salary package would be too high for the Belgian side.
According to Patrick Berger, the player is expected to fly to Glasgow within the next 24 hours to complete the medical checks. Should this move be made official, it would end Matondo’s three-year stay in Germany after the Welshman joined S04 in 2019 from Manchester City for €9m.
Matondo has played just 1529 minutes across 29 games in the Bundesliga for the Royal Blues, scoring two goals.
