Upon returning from the Africa Cup of Nations a national hero for his home country of Cote d’Ivoire, there were high hopes that Borussia Dortmund striker Sebastien Haller would get a chance to reestablish himself for his German club Borussia Dortmund. Unfortunately, Dortmund confirmed that results from a post-AFCON medical returned bad news. The 29-year-old will remain out for “several weeks” due to a flare up in his ankle injury.
Shortly after scoring what proved to be the game-winning goal for his country in the AFCON Final last Sunday, Haller had to be subbed off with pain in his ankle. A proper diagnosis was obviously deferred whilst during the celebrations of Cote d’Ivoire’s continental championship. The sobering news came on Friday. The very same ankle injury sustained in December’s 1-1 draw with Mainz will sideline Haller again.
