Both SC Freiburg and FC Augsburg confirmed their earlier-reported-upon striker-swap early Friday evening.

The rumored striker swap between Baden’s Bresigauer and Bavaria’s Fuggerstädter is now complete. Austrian international Michael Greogritsch moves from FC Augsburg to Sc Freiburg whilst Bosnia & Herzegovina center-forward Ermedin Demirovic heads in the opposite direction. German footballing magazine Kicker reports that there are no transfer fees involved for either side in the deal.
Gregoritsch scored nine goals and registered one assist in 25 league appearances for the FCA last season. The 28-year-old veteran has also played for Schalke, Bochum, St. Pauli, Hoffenheim, and the Hamburger SV during his long Bundesliga career. He’s also scored seven goals in 39 international caps for his native Austria.
“Michael has again put some good development behind him, in the past year,” SCF administrator Klemens Hartenbach said of his new acquisition, “In addition to his already existing qualities such as playfulness and finishing strength, he’s made further progress after dealing with another spell of adversity.”
When healthy, Gregoritsch is widely regarded as a talented attacker. The player Augsburg receives is four years Gregoritsch’s junior. the twenty-four-year-old Demirovic has had to deal with his own professional adversity in the previous seasons. He netted just two league tallies for Christian Streich’s team in 31 (mostly relief) appearances. He also missed a crucial penalty in the DFB Pokal Final.
FCA sporting director Stefan Reuter preferred to focus on the season-before-last when discussing his new player.
“His 15 scorer points in the previous Bundesliga season show what great potential he possesses,” Reuter noted, “He should continue to develop at our FCA and we are very pleased that he has chosen to do so.”
