According to Fabrice Hawkins, there has been no movement in Olympique Lyonnais’s attempts to convince Saïd Benrahma (28) to join the club.
West Ham United and Lyon have already come to an agreement over the Algerian international, with the deal reportedly structured around a loan deal with an option to purchase in the summer.
Lyon would pay an initial loan fee of €5 million while the transfer fee if they hoped to secure his services permanently would cost the club an extra €10 million. However, the Benrahma has yet to agree terms with the French side and remains in England.
Not Lyon’s first choice?
It’s expected that the club and player will be able to negotiate a deal and finally put an end on Thursday evening to a transfer saga that has involved multiple clubs across France and England.
Despite it being likely that Lyon will land their target, it has become apparent that the ex-Brentford winger was not the sporting department’s first choice, as they were prioritising a move for Arnaut Danjuma (27).
What seems to have made Benrahma the more viable option is that West Ham have been keen to offload a player that has struggled to find first-team football this season, while Everton were reluctant to allow Danjuma to walk.
