Former RC Lens midfielder Seko Fofana (28) is set to join Al-Ettifaq from Al-Nassr on a six-month loan.
The midfielder during his three-year spell with Les Sang et Or became an indispensable figure to the team, and captained the squad last season as they came within a point of title winners Paris Saint-Germain.
His shock departure in the summer for a fee of €20 million was part of the wave of players moving from Europe to Saudi Arabia. After a slow start to life in a new country, Fofana has settled into the league and impressed with his performances.
Despite this, the former Lens man was still placed on the market as Al-Nassr looked to free up space in their foreign player quota to allow for the return of David Ospina (35) from injury.
Fofana to remain in Saudi Arabia
Foot Mercato reports that Al-Ettifaq have swooped on this situation, having already lost their captain Jordan Henderson (33) in this transfer window to Ajax following his disillusionment with his experience in the Middle East.
Fofana would represent a perfect replacement for the England international, and it appears likely that a deal for the player to join the club for six months will soon be confirmed.
