Sky Germany and Bild report that Bayern Munich are set to terminate the contract of technical director Marco Neppe with discussions under way over an amicable termination.
Last summer, Neppe was crucial in bringing both Kim Min-Jae and Harry Kane to Bayern but in the winter he has seen less and less influence in decisions on transfers. Sporting director Christoph Freund solely handled the arrival of Eric Dier earlier in the window.
Neppe’s impending departure will mean Freund has greater responsibility with the transfers until at least March when Max Eberl is expected to join Bayern’s board and become Freund’s superior.
Neppe has already received enquiries from Germany as well as abroad for potential jobs.
The director was also a close confidant of former sporting director Hasan Salihamidžić, the departure of Neppe is one of the last signs of this ‘old era’ under Salihamidžić and Oliver Kahn as Bayern look to reinvent themselves and not slowly lose themselves which is seemingly the case now, on and off the pitch.
