A knee capsule injury suffered in training this week and reports that a strained relationship with head-coach Thomas Tuchel leaves him poised for a summer exit will not stop Dutch defender Matthijs de Ligt from starting in central defense alongside Dayot Upamecano in tomorrow’s league fixture against SV Werder Bremen.
This was confirmed by Tuchel at his Saturday pre-match presser. Tuchel also commented on the rumors of problems with his Dutch center back; albeit treading carefully with his words. The FCB trainer insisted that he and his staff entertained no notions of selling the 24-year-old just yet.
“Matthijs is fully fit, will be ready tomorrow and will also start,” Tuchel told members of the assembled press corps at the Säbener Straße, “Of course, we’re planning with him [this summer]. He’s a top player and character. There’s [still] no doubt that he has to prove himself.”
