Pep Guardiola asked to choose between legendary Barcelona side and current Man City

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola was this evening asked for his take on who would emerge victorious in a meeting between two of his most vaunted sides.

Guardiola, of course, has long been regarded as one of, if not the finest tactician in world football.

The Spaniard has ushered in something of a new era in the European game, amid the ongoing pursuit of the perfect balance between tactical, technical and physical brilliance.

Across his 15 years on the touchline, though, which of Guardiola’s great sides stand out as the best?

The first is widely agreed upon, in the form of the all-conquering Barcelona outfit of the 2008/09 campaign.

The other, though, it could certainly be argued, was plying its trade under the watch of the 53-year-old just last season.

This of course came as a Manchester City side spearheaded by the brilliance of Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland broke the Sky Blues’ Champions League curse, to seal their place in the history books courtesy of a treble.

Speaking after scooping the Globe Soccer award for Coach of the Year on Friday, Guardiola, in turn, was drawn on which of these two teams he feels was superior.

The former Barca midfielder, however, did his best to avoid the question, courtesy of a humorous response.

As cited by transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola explained that “it’s like [being asked to choose between] mum and dad!”
