Mainz and Union Berlin compete for Austrian winger Grüll’s services

Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, reporting on rumors surfacing in Austria’s “Kronen Zeitung”, claims that FSV Mainz 05 are also interested in acquiring Austrian winger Marco Grüll of Rapid Wien. 

Four-times-capped Austrian international Marco Grüll, after the recently signed Chris Bedia, is rumored to be the next targeted singing prioritized by FCUnion Berlin managing director Oliver Ruhnert’s front office. Austria’s “Kronen Zeitung” reports that Union seek to acquire the 25-year-old winger for a price tag of around €2 million. Grüll’s Austrian side remain reluctant to part company with one of their key players, yet might be persuaded if the right price is proffered. The Vienna-based club risk losing Grüll on a free when his contact expires at the end of the season.

German journalist Florian Plettenberg of Sky Germany claims that his sources can confirm the Union links. Moreover, Plettenberg claims, FSV Mainz 05 are also interested in the attacker. Plettenberg notes that FCU trainer Nenad Bjelica has courted the player personally. A verbal agreement between the player and Köpenick club nevertheless counts for naught if Mainz wish to step in before the two clubs can agree on a transfer fee. Grüll has scored 12 goals and pocketed six assists for Wien this season.
