Bayern Munich’s centre-back duo of Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano have picked up knocks at the club’s training camp in Portugal.
As reported by a number of German media outlets, neither de Ligt nor Upamecano took part in training with the team today. It’s currently unclear how serious the injuries are.
According to Kicker, de Ligt briefly lay on the ground in Monday’s afternoon session after a challenge in the final training match, but he was able to resume training afterwards. It’s unclear if his absence has anything to do with this.
With Min-jae Kim currently away at the Asian Cup, new signing Eric Dier is the only natural centre-back who could fill in at the heart of defense in the event of an injury.
There’s also the possibility of playing Leon Goretzka at centre-back, as Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel has previously done this season.
