Juventus central-defender Matthijs de Ligt (22) is a dream player for Bayern Munich bosses but despite an €80m valuation, a transfer isn’t entirely out of the equation.
Speaking in Thursday’s edition of Kicker, Bayern CEO Oliver Kahn addressed the central-defence: “We’re very happy with the quality at centre-back but we can improve when it comes to leadership, loudness and presence.”
De Ligt also has interest from Chelsea but has a preference to join Bayern Munich. The Dutchman has a reported €120m release clause but Juventus would be willing to negotiate around the €80m value. However, it’s unclear as to whether Bayern would go above €60m following the recent arrival of Sadio Mané.
Bayern Munich are also planning with Benjamin Pavard given his ability to play both central-defence and right-back. However, it’s not ruled out that the Frenchman could depart this summer should they receive a suitable offer with two-years remaining on his current deal.
Since the departure of David Alaba to Real Madrid last summer, Bayern have struggled with leadership at the back.
