Jonathan David (24) has said that he does not expect to leave Lille OSC this month, however, he hasn’t ruled out a departure at the end of the season.
It was expected that David would leave Lille in the summer, however, the Ligue 1 club set a hefty €60m asking price for the Canada international, and ultimately, this valuation was not met. Consequently, David remained with Les Dogues, but having done so, he then failed to re-create the goalscoring form that he had showed last season, which even saw him lose his place in the starting XI to Yusuf Yazici.
Lille target striker to challenge David
Since the November international break, David has re-discovered his goalscoring touch and he already has four goals in two games in 2024. He has now revealed that he doesn’t expect a move this month. “I think I’ll finish the season with Lille and we’ll see what happens after that,” said David after LOSC’s 3-0 victory over FC Lorient on Sunday.
Whilst David is expected to remain in Northern France, attacking reinforcements are expected to arrive, with Paulo Fonseca pushing for the arrival of another forward. “If an attacker comes in, it’s up to me to show in training that I deserve my place in the team,” said David.
