Napoli are interested in Rennes defender Arthur Theate as they look to sign a defender this month.
The Partenopei missed out on Radu Dragusin a couple of days ago, as they did make a last ditch offer for the Romanian, who is now already a Tottenham Hotspur player. But they continue to search for a new centre-back.
Il Mattino have reported about the club’s chase for a defender and Theate is a target, having previously played in Serie A. While talks remain on with Udinese for Nehuen Perez, Napoli continue to work on other fronts as they look to bolster their backline.
Formal steps have been taken for Theate and the other two targets are Lilian Brassier and Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah. There is the possibility of an attempt being made for Chalobah and talks could be held with Chelsea later in the window, as Chalobah can also adapt to playing in midfield.
But for now, it seems as if Perez and Theate are the club’s main targets.
