Manchester United loanee Mason Greenwood has this weekend provided an insight into his current mindset, amid fresh speculation surrounding his future.
Frontman Greenwood, of course, was afforded something of a 2nd chance this past summer, in being brought in by Getafe for the duration of the 2023/24 campaign.
And, after something of a hit-and-miss start to life in La Liga, the last couple of months have seen the England international begin to repay the faith of the powers that be at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez.
A straight red card against Rayo Vallecano last time out aside, Greenwood has thoroughly impressed of late, to the tune of five direct goal contributions in his prior seven outings.
Such form has seen rumours begin to spread that one of Spanish football’s heavyweights, namely Barcelona, are expressing a keen interest in bringing the 22-year-old in this summer.
English outlet The Sun even went as far as to suggest that the Blaugrana would be willing to offer him the club’s iconic no.10 shirt.
Getafe, though, are equally eager to keep hold of their starring loan signing, with parent club Manchester United expected to be open to a permanent sale.
And, if the latest comments on the part of Greenwood himself are anything to go by, such a deal coming to fruition may not be entirely out of the question.
Speaking after being named the Azulones’ Player of the Month for December, Greenwood today confirmed his happiness at the Alfonso Pérez, reserving special praise for his teammates and the club’s fans alike:
“Everything’s fine,” he began, during an interview with Getafe’s social team. “I adapted pretty quickly. Teammates took me under their wing and I’ve just been happy ever since, coming here and training, playing the games. I’m happy.
“The fans mean a lot to me. The best feeling so far is when I scored my first goal here at the stadium and it meant a lot to me, I heard the fans quite a lot.
“Also we had the training day and a lot of fans came out to watch so we always appreciate the fans. They’re like an extra man out there on the pitch when they’re out there supporting us.”
