Nemanja Matić (35) has burnt bridges at Stade Rennais. In a move to force through a departure from the club, Matić left Rennes earlier this week, reportedly to return to London. Whilst he has since returned and apologised for this behaviour, a transfer away from Les Rennais seems an inevitability, and according to Foot Mercato, Fulham is a realistic destination.
Whilst Olympique Lyonnais remain in the race to sign Matić, it was reported by L’Équipe that the midfielder, who has previously played for Chelsea and Manchester United, is keen on a return to the Premier League. Fulham are targeting a move, according to Foot Mercato.
The publication adds that Matić’s wife, Aleksandra Matić, also favours a return to London. She didn’t enjoy living in Rome, nor in Rennes, whilst she is reportedly not keen on a move to Lyon either. Fulham, however, will have to still convince Rennes to sell. The Ligue 1 club aren’t looking to do Matić any favours and Fulham will therefore have to meet Rennes’ valuation of a player whose contract still runs until 2025.
