David Datro Fofana’s departure from 1. FC Union Berlin – rumored to be in the works for some days – has been officially confirmed. Union and Fofana’s parent club of Chelsea FC officially confirmed the premature termination of the 21-year-old’s season-long loan deal on Thursday afternoon. Fofana netted two goals and registered one assist in 17 competitive appearances with die Eisernen.
“David should have given us more pace and creativity with his way of playing football,” FCU managing director Oliver Ruhnert noted in a statement accompanying the news. “Overall, he wasn’t able to supply this as he and we had hoped. Now appeared the proper time for us to mutually decide to end the loan.”
