As reported by Kicker, Serhou Guirassy’s injury is not as bad as first feared.
Guinea beat Nigeria 2-0 on Monday afternoon in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, but Guirassy was substituted with a thigh injury with less than 30 minutes played.
The 27-year-old has since had an MRI scan, which showed that the forward has only experienced a slight strain in his right thigh. Guirassy is in no pain and will stay with Guinea as he recovers.
However, it remains uncertain how long their star player will be out for.
Guirassy (27) has been in excellent form this season with 17 goals and one assist in 14 Bundesliga games this season, which places Stuttgart third, eight points behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen, after 16 matches played.
Guirassy’s Guinea will face Gambia, Cameroon and Senegal in the AFCON, with the opening game seeing Ivory Coast play Guinea-Bissau on Saturday.
