Former Barcelona and Spain defender Gerard Piqué has today announced his imminent return to football.
Piqué, of course, played his final game as a professional back in 2022, when the veteran agreed to bring a close to his long-term relationship with Barcelona to ease the club’s ongoing financial struggles.
Since, he has remained away from the pitch, but has continued to showcase his love for the game through a number of ventures, including the King’s League, and his role as owner of Segunda outfit FC Andorra.
Evidently, though, Piqué is eager to get back in the thick of the action.
Taking to social media today, the 36-year-old, in turn, made official his intention to return to football, in a new role.
As per a post on his X account, Piqué will imminently take up a position as a coach, further details of which will be provided at some point this coming week.
Check out the translated post below:
“It’s a new year, and after thinking carefully, I have decided to return to football. I miss it a lot. This time it won’t be as a player. It will be as a coach. I’ll share more details at the end of the week.”
