PSG unlikely to pursue Bruno Guimarães deal

PSG unlikely to pursue Bruno Guimarães deal

Whilst Luis Enrique is a big fan of Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimarães (26), a move to Paris Saint-Germain this January looks highly unlikely, according to RMC Sport.

Luis Enrique’s admiration of Guimarães, whom his side faced in the UEFA Champions League this season is no secret. The Brazilian has excelled on Tyneside since his move from Olympique Lyonnais. It is also known that PSG are looking to strengthen their midfield this winter. Gabriel Moscardo was set to bolster Les Parisiens’ options, however, his medical revealed an injury that requires surgery. His arrival at the Parc des Princes is therefore set to be deferred until the summer.

However, PSG want reinforcements now and have been linked with a move for Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips. Guimarães is also a target, but he would be a more financially onerous option – his release clause is reportedly valued at £100m.

That figure is considered out of reach by PSG’s hierarchy, whilst Eddie Howe has also expressed a desire to retain the former OL midfielder. As a result, a move is highly unlikely. PSG’s search for a midfielder continues.
