Reus denies rumors that he pushed for Terzic’s ouster: “Complete bulls**t!”

In an interview with German broadcaster “Sport1” in Monday, ex-BVB captain Marco Reus responded to rumors that he and other Dortmund veterans pushed for the dismissal of Dortmund trainer Edin Terzic. 

Amid rumors that Borussia Dortmund trainer Edin Terzic might be sacked over the winter break, Germany’s main sporting tabloid reported that Marco Reus and several other BVB players were leading an open revolt against their head-coach. Reus responded to said rumors in an interview with German broadcaster “Sport1” on Monday.

“There was no attempted coup, either from myself or other players,” Reus said in his interview, “It was tough to read that. It made me angry. I’ve been through a lot in my career and I’m not really the type too let negative headlines get to me. But this crossed a line for me. The accusations made my really mad. That’s why I want to address it.”

“That’s complete bullshit,” Reus continued when asked if his dissatisfaction with having to leave the pitch early during a 1-1 draw with Augsburg on 2023’s penultimate match-day led to him openly pushing for Terzic’s removal, “Of course I was disappointed that I had to exit like that, but need to get a better grip on my emotions.”

Reus described his relationship with Terzic as a “very close and good”, taking care to emphasize that he spoke “frequently and openly” with his head-coach. The German footballing legend did note that he felt his  start to the season to be “unsatisfactory” and stressed that everyone was “working hard in training camp” to improve ahead of the Bundesliga restart.
