Germany’s main sporting tabloid reports that three top-tier sides have made enquires about SV Werder Bremen striker Dawid Kownacki.

Official: Werder seal Kownacki signing

SV Werder Bremen summer signing Dawid Kownacki has been unable to secure much playing time in his return to the German top flight. The former Fortuna Düsseldorf professional – who does have four Bundesliga goals to his credit – lost out to other attacking forwards on head-coach Ole Werner’s roster. Kownacki hasn’t gotten his name on the scoresheet in nine league appearances (three starts) thus far this year.

Several other top-tier sides were interested in signing Kownacki this offseason. Germany’s “Sport Bild” tabloid now reports that at least thee Bundesliga clubs have reinvigorated their interest in the 26-year-old. The newspaper does not name specific clubs, but does note that two of the interested organizations are at the bottom of the Bundesliga table.

Union Berlin would presumably be interested in acquiring Kownacki in the hopes of shoring up their attack. Gladbach, Freiburg, and Hoffenheim were among the other clubs seeking to sign the player on a free in the summer. In recent public comments published by Bremen’s “Deichstube” fan-site, SV licensing director Clemens Fritz denied that the Hanseaten were considering a sale or loan.

Both player and club may nevertheless find a short-term-loan in their mutual interest. Kownacki currently sits behind younger prospects Nick Woltemade and Justin Njinmah on Werner’s depth chart. Much hinges on whether regular starter Rafael Santos Borré will be on the move away from the club, but Kownacki’s playing prospects still appear rather bleak.
