Real Madrid decide against bringing in new defender despite injury losses

An update on the plans of Real Madrid to add to the club’s defensive ranks during the January transfer window has come to the fore.

The info comes courtesy of Marca, who point towards Florentino Pérez and Co. as having come to something of a surprise decision.

It has of course long been assured in the media that Real are ready to dip into the market this month, to bring in fresh blood at the back.

This comes after Los Blancos were dealt not one, but two major blows on the personnel front, in the form of respective ACL ruptures for central defensive pair Éder Militão and David Alaba.

Despite all of the signs pointing towards a new stopper making his way to Spain’s capital over the coming weeks, though, Marca now suggest that as much looks increasingly unlikely.

After scouring the market for potential reinforcements for the last two weeks, Real have decided that the appropriate profile has not presented itself.

The capital giants are therefore prepared to continue through to March – when it is hoped that Militão will return – leaning on the current crop of options at the disposal of Carlo Ancelotti.

This trio consists of Antonio Rudiger, Nacho Fernández, and Aurélien Tchouaméni – the latter of whom has agreed to fill in at centre-back long-term – despite his general dislike for the position.
