The return of 1. FC Köln winger Dimitrios Limnios back to his native Greece is now confirmed. Greek club Panathinaikos FC confirmed that the 25-year-old had signed a new deal that will keep him in the Greek capital through 2027. Neither the German nor the Greek club immediately disclosed details of the transfer, but it can be tacitly assumed that the cathedral city side recouped nowhere near the reported €3.5 million they once shelled out to acquire him in summer of 2020.

Limniios ended up making just 12 Bundesliga appearances. He never registered his name on a Bundesliga scoresheet. A successful loan stint with FC Twente in the Dutch Erdevisie did briefly engender some hope that he might be able to catch on in Germany, but the player never managed to play his way backing the good graces of Köln trainer Steffen Baumgart after suffering a major injury setback in June of 2022. Limnios now heads from the Bundesliga relegation race to the Greek title race.
