According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, La Liga leaders Girona are closely monitoring Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye. The club have sent their scouts to follow the defender five times in recent months, as they look to lure him from the Catalan club.
However, Faye is highly regarded by the Barça hierarchy, who have no intention to sell him as they believe he will play an important role for the club in the future. The 2004-born player has also attracted interest from other clubs in Spain, but as it stands it is Girona who have shown the most concrete interest in the player.
The 19-year-old arrived at Barcelona from Croatian club NK Kustosija last summer and is now impressing for Barça Atlètic in the Primera RFEF. The young Senegalese prospect is primarily a central defender, but can also operate at left back.
The left-footed player is physically strong and exceptionally quick, but his standout quality revolves around his ability to play out from the back. This season, Faye has played in 15 matches in the Third Division.
