Can Quique Sánchez Flores rescue Sevilla?

Following the sacking of Diego Alonso, Sevilla have turned to former Getafe manager Quique Sánchez Flores to drag the Andalusian team out of their current crisis.

Sánchez Flores, now the side’s third manager of the season after José Luis Mendilibar and the Uruguayan Diego Alonso, was Sevilla’s first choice and will sign a contract until 2025, as reported by Marca. Sánchez Flores wanted to have all the information at his disposal before accepting the job offer, including how much control he will have over incoming and outgoings in the January transfer market. The manager from Madrid has made it clear that additions will be fundamental, and it is thought that he will be given a high degree of control over transfers.

Sánchez Flores comes into a club that is in crisis. The relationship between the hierarchy and the fans is now almost non-existent; there are problems in the dressing room that is not only riddled with injuries but also has i-fighting between players who are questioning the commitment of others (Sergio Ramos recently called out his teammate Joan Jordán for his lack of commitment to the club).

The 58-year-old will take charge of his first training session this evening, and tomorrow, he will take charge of his first game as Sevilla make the trip to Granada, who are in 19th. Sevilla have accumulated just 13 points this season, putting on the same points as Cádiz, who are in the relegation zone.
