As reported by The Telegraph, Bayern Munich assistant coach Anthony Barry is one of the leading candidates for the Republic of Ireland national job.
Barry joined Thomas Tuchel at Bayern when the German coach moved their from in April 2023. Tuchel knew Barry from their time at Chelsea together with Tuchel insisting that he joined him in Bavaria.
The 57-year-old previously had a part-time role in the Irish set-up as an assistant coach whilst still obtaining his role at Chelsea. The former midfielder has also helped positions Belgium and Portugal as assistant to Roberto Martinez on both occasions.
It remains to be seen whether Barry would leave Bayern. However, a first chance to take a head coaching role would be tempting.
As of yet, Barry has always played assistant under a number of world-class coaches.
For now, Barry will continue to work at Bayern as they prepare to get back to winning ways in the Bundesliga against high-flyers VfB Stuttgart this Sunday.
