Moussa Niakhaté is set to join Nottingham Forest from Mainz with the player due to complete his medical this week, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The French-Senegalese centre-back will join the newly-promoted Premier League side for a reported €15m including add-ons. A deal between both Forest and Mainz was agreed upon in principle last week.
Niakhaté missed just four Bundesliga games for Mainz last season and has become a mainstay in central defence. Since his €6m from Metz in 2018, the former French youth international has played 135 games in all competitions for the Bundesliga side.
Mainz had been preparing for the player’s departure for a few weeks now.
Sporting Director Christian Heidel said: “We are planning that Moussa will leave.” Followed by: “It’s quiet here [in Mainz]. I assume that Moussa’s agent is by no means so quiet.”
Niakhaté is the second defender to leave the club this summer after Jeremiah St. Juste joined Sporting CP with Maxim Leitsch (24) coming in as a replacement.
