Youssouf Fofana (24), who missed AS Monaco’s 2-0 victory over Montpellier HSC on Sunday through illness, returned to first-team training this week and could start for the Principality club against Stade Rennais on Saturday.
Fofana was in the squad to face Les Héraults, however, he dropped out last minute through illness. Following the victory, Adi Hütter said that he expected the France international to return to training on Monday. There was no grave concern for Fofana, and as expected he did train this week ahead of Saturday’s match.
His return is timely given that Eliot Matazo is set to miss up to two months with a quadriceps injury. The Belgium U21 international has fallen down the pecking order this season, but he could have become an important option in the wake of absences in Monaco’s midfield.
Myron Boadu, meanwhile continues his recovery from a quadriceps injury, although he continues to train away from the first team. Eliesse Ben Seghir, who underwent surgery on a shoulder injury in November, is also training individually as he regains his fitness ahead of a touted return in early 2024.
