Dominant Stuttgart see off Dortmund

VfB Stuttgart are through to the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal after a convincing 2-0 win over Borussia Dortmund on Wednesday night.

In a game that Stuttgart dominated from start to finish, the home side could easily have taken the lead during the first 45 minutes, but Gregor Kobel made several fine saves to keep the game scoreless at the break.

However, he couldn’t prevent Serhou Guirassy from breaking the deadlock in the 55th minute when the Guinea international unleashed a powerful shot through his legs.

Dortmund looked to have pulled one back in the 60th minute when Niclas Füllkrug squared the ball across goal for Jamie Bynoe-Gittens to score, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

Instead, Stuttgart made it 2-0 in the 78th minute when second-half substitute Silas skipped past Nico Schlotterbeck and slotted the ball into the net.
