Bayern held scoreless by determined Copenhagen

With top spot in Group A and passage to the knockout round secured prior to kick-off, Bayern welcomed Copenhagen to the Allianz Arena this evening. Despite some VAR drama, the game would finish 0-0.

While Bayern were under no duress, the opposite was the case for Copenhagen tonight. The Danish champions knew a result of any kind would leave them resting in second place ahead of the final matchday.

Such was Copenhagen’s determination, it remained scoreless at the interval. The half’s best chances came in a flurry around the half-hour period. Roony Bardghji was first to curl inches wide of Neuer’s goal. Minutes later Thomas Müller’s headed effort would be repelled by the masked figure of Kamil Grabara.

Diogo Goncalves dragged a fine strike millimetres wide of Neuer’s right post upon the game’s resumption. That effort would be one of very few before Tuchel called upon the services of Sané, Gnabry, and youngster Pavlovic. The unusually quiet Harry Kane would be next to warm Grabara’s gloves with a long-range drive.

Neither side truly looked like breaking the deadlock until Copenhagen’s final chance in the 87th minute. The ever-consistent reavtions of Manuel Neuer denied Elyounoussi at the double to maintain the clean sheet. Despite a late penalty appeal for a handball by Ankersen, the Spanish arbiters overturned the VAR decision and with that it ended 0-0.
