According to Sport Bild, former Schalke supervisory board member Clemens Tönnies plans to provide a package including a financial injection that will remove the current leadership at the club.
Schalke currently sits 16th in the 2.Bundesliga and opposition towards the current sporting leadership is beginning to grow.
Former board member Tönnies aims to stage a sort of coup by providing a package with ‘massive financial support’ that the members of Schalke would find so convincing that Chairman of the Supervisory Board Axel Hefer, Chairman of the Board Matthias Tillmann and Sports Director André Hechelmann are all indirectly pushed to leave their roles.
Part of this package involves bringing in current Union Berlin sporting director Oliver Ruhnert as their new sporting director. Ruhnert is a Schalke fan and can leave Union at the end of the season if he pleases, Ruhnert even worked for Schalke between 2008-17 in various positions.
However, Ruhnert feels comfortable in Berlin and the situation he would inherit in the Ruhr is not much better than the relegation fight in Berlin. For Ruhnert to take over, the situation has to be right for him.
