As reported by Sky Germany, it is understood that Florian Wirtz favours a move to Bayern Munich before moving abroad.
Since making his debut for Bayer Leverkusen in 2020, Wirtz has been able to establish himself as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents. With elite clubs constantly monitoring the 20-year-old, it would appear that he has the world at his feet.
However, despite interest from clubs such as Manchester United and Real Madrid, Wirtz is currently looking to remain in Germany and sign for Der Rekordmeister. According to Sky, while his contract is set to expire with the Werkself in 2027, there is an expectation that he will undoubtedly leave by the end of next season, and therefore, a €120m price tag has been placed on him.
Nevertheless, neither Wirtz nor Bayern are in a rush to get this deal over the line. The 20-year-old wants to develop and mature at Leverkusen before making the move to Bavaria, meaning that a stay beyond the European Championships is a possibility.
As for Bayern, there is an understanding that if it is possible to sign Wirtz, then they must do so. However, with Jamal Musiala at the club, it is unknown whether there is room for the Leverkusen midfielder at the Allianz Arena.
Regardless, with Musiala’s future unknown amid interest from Real Madrid, Liverpool, and Manchester City, an exit from Bayern could pave the way for Wirtz. Therefore, another year at the Werkself is on the cards, but the final decision will ultimately come down to the Leverkusen star.
