Augsburg close to hiring BVB II trainer Maaßen

Since joining FC Augsburg from newly promoted Bundesliga side SV Darmstadt 98 last summer, German defender Patric Pfeiffer has been unable to establish himself at his new club. Under the two coaching regimes of Enrico Maaßen and Jess Thorup, the 24-year-old hasn’t featured in the league at all beyond a string of four consecutive starts between match-day four and seven.

Sky Germany reports that the former German youth international is unhappy with his current situation and wishes to push for a loan-out in the January transfer window. Sky goes on to note that FC Schalke 04 are interested in taking the former Darmstadt starter on. The Königsblauen – currently in 16th-place in the 2. Bundesliga table – have been quite vocal about the need to acquire more defenders in the coming window.
