Barcelona are willing to keep Frenkie de Jong, but only if he takes a substantial pay cut. If not, he will join Manchester United, according to Luis Rojo of Marca.
Barca president Joan Laporta said on Saturday that he would do everything possible to keep the Dutchman at the Catalan club.
One of the reasons why Barcelona want De Jong to leave is because of the large amount of money the player will be paid next season – €10 million net for the year. There will also be certain clauses and a decrease in his value to add to that figure.
All in all, De Jong will cost the club around €40 million next season.
Laporta knows that the midfielder wants to stay. Despite United manager Erik ten Hag’s pressure, the player’s priority is to stay at Camp Nou.
In order to stay at Barca, he will have to take a substantial pay cut. His current deal runs until 2026.
