While out with injury, Jiri Pavlenka has lost his starting spot in the Werder Bremen goal to Michael Zetterer.
“The decision is made now. Of course you don’t change goalkeepers from week to week, because that doesn’t get you anywhere,” said Werder Bremen head of football Clemens Fritz after Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, which Pavlenka watched from the bench.
Although Pavlenka has accepted the decision in a “highly professional” manner, a January move could be on the cards, reports Kicker.
Regular playing time is important for the 31-year-old’s hopes of securing a place in the Czech squad for Euro 2024. In addition, his contract with Werder Bremen expires at the end of the season.
Fritz said that a transfer for Pavlenka is “not yet on the agenda”, but admitted that “things can happen quickly in football”.
