Bayern Munich defeated FC Köln 1-0 at the RheinEnergieStadion on Friday evening to pile the pressure on Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga.
The win takes the Bavarians into first place, one point clear of Die Werkself, who can reclaim the top spot if they beat Werder Bremen on Saturday.
Harry Kane scored the winner for the Bavarians on 20 minutes, slotting the ball into the net after Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s initial effort had been cleared off the line.
In a one-sided affair, Bayern had plenty of chances to make it a more comfortable victory, with Leroy Sané and Kingsley Coman particularly wasteful in front of goal.
But one goal was enough to secure all three points for the Bavarians against Köln, who are now bottom of the table due to a worse goal difference than Union Berlin.
