OGC Nice midfielder Khéphren Thuram (22) has replaced Eduardo Camavinga (21) in the France squad for the upcoming fixtures against Gibraltar and Greece.
Camavinga was injured during Wednesday evening’s training session. The injury happened during a collision with Paris Saint-Germain’s Ousmane Dembélé. According to L’Équipe, the initial medical tests were “reassuring”, however, the Real Madrid midfielder has now left the squad, as confirmed by the FFF in an official statement on Thursday morning.
The former Stade Rennais midfielder has been replaced by Thuram. The Nice midfielder has just one cap for Les Bleus and has not been called up since March. With Camavinga and Aurélien Tchouaméni, who is also absent for the upcoming matches through injury, both out of the squad, it could be a good opportunity for Thuram to stake a claim for more caps going forward. It is equally a chance for PSG’s Warren Zaïre-Emery, who has been called up for the first time, to make his debut and stake a claim to be a part of the Euro 2024 squad. France have already ensured their qualification for the tournament with two games remaining.
