Napoli director Mauro Meluso has, on Wednesday, provided an update on the future of star attacker Victor Osimhen.
The subject of frontman Osimhen’s long-term plans has of course long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Naples. This comes with a whole host of European football’s top clubs understood to be keeping a close eye on the Nigerian’s situation.
Not only that, but the recent fallout between club and player, owing to a bizarre drama originating on TikTok, is expected to push Osimhen towards the exit door.
Speaking to the media on the back of Napoli’s Champions League stalemate with Union Berlin on Wednesday, the subject of the club’s prolific striker was therefore put to the aforementioned Mauro Meluso.
And the Partenopei chief spoke to MediaSet (via CN24), went on to confirm that negotiations over a new contract have been ongoing with Osimhen for some time now, amid hopes of an agreement eventually being struck:
”We’ve been negotiating for months, it’s a long negotiation. We will see how it goes, step by step”.
Meluso also confirmed that the 24-year-old has now returned to Naples, ahead of ramping up his recovery from injury over the coming weeks.
