During his long spell on the sidelines, Manuel Neuer lost his starting spot for Germany to Marc-André ter Stegen.
But if Neuer can return to his best now that he’s back to full fitness, Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer believes he should be Germany’s number one again.
“If he gets back to his best, no other goalkeeper should be in goal for the national team – because then Neuer is simply the best,” Hainer told the AZ.
Neuer made his debut for the senior national team in 2009 and has gone on to make 117 appearances for Germany.
