“If I said no, I’d be lying” – Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konaté says he can imagine playing for PSG

Speaking to Canal Plus, Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté (24) has said that he can imagine himself one day playing for Paris Saint-Germain.

Konaté grew up in Paris around older brothers, all of whom are PSG fans. The Liverpool centre-back was questioned by Canal Plus whether he’s ever imagined himself wearing the red and blue of PSG, to which he replied, “If I said no, I’d be lying, but if you’re asking, is it one of my objectives? Not at all.”

Having arrived on Merseyside in the summer of 2021 and has gone on to carve out a starting spot in Jürgen Klopp’s side, featuring 64 times since his arrival. The former RB Leipzig centre-back is also in the process of consolidating a spot at international level. He already has 12 caps for France and is often chosen alongside Dayot Upamecano by Didier Deschamps. 

Konaté, who is under contract at Liverpool until 2026, is often questioned about a move to PSG and his international teammates are even attempting to convince Konaté of a move to the Parc des Princes. International teammates Kylian Mbappé, Lucas Hernandez and Ousmane Dembélé all play for Les Parisiens. The Liverpool defender has praised PSG’s Franco-centric recruitment. “PSG has made sure to recruit players who understand each other well and who play with each other for the France national team. Even for the people and the Parisian fans, it makes them happy. It’s what they’ve been waiting for for years, having Parisian players or at least French players in the team,” said Konaté.
