Napoli sporting director Mauro Meluso has, on Saturday, provided a fresh insight into the future of Piotr Zielinski.
The name of midfielder Zielinski has of course long taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Naples.
This comes ahead of the expiration of the Pole’s contract in the summer of 2024. A number of rival Serie A clubs are understood to be keen to snap Zielinski up on a free transfer ahead of next season, with Juventus and Inter Milan at the front of the queue and both clubs said to have made contact for the player.
Speaking ahead of his side’s eventual 2-0 triumph over Salernitana on Saturday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the potential departure of the club’s midfield gem was put to aforementioned Napoli chief Mauro Meluso.
And his ensuing response will no doubt come as a relief to all of a Partenopei persuasion.
Seemingly confident that Zielinski will ultimately stay put, Meluso explained to DAZN (via CN24)
“Zielinski wants to stay here, he’s very happy and he’s always been very clear. We are working to extend his contract and I’m quietly confident.”
