Atlético Madrid beat Alavés 2-1 at the Cívitas Metropolitano on Sunday night to equal a club record.
Their home victory – with goals from Rodrigo Riquelme and Álvaro Morata – was their 14th consecutive home win, equalling the club’s record of ten years ago at the Vicente Calderón.
The narrow win over the Basque side moves Atlético ahead of FC Barcelona, who lost to Real Madrid in El Clásico on Saturday.
Atlético move up to third in the La Liga table after tonight and if they win their game in hand, they will go joint-top of the standings with high-flying Girona and Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid.
Atlético Madrid in La Liga this season
8 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat.
